Andean charm from Lima to Cusco

What we propose with this itinerary is a journey that will lead you through the main destinations of Southern Peru according to a formula that will allow the maximum discovery of the unmissable destinations of the South of the Country. A fast and essential program for those with only a few days available. It is concentrated on the discovery of the Andean area, from Arequipa to Cusco, passing through the immense Lake Titicaca.

Day 1: Arrival in Lima

Upon your arrival, one of our collaborators or managers will meet you at Jorge Chavez airport in Lima, to move you to the Lima hotel. As soon as possible and in any case after a well-deserved rest, coordination meeting to show you the last details of the trip. If possible, the Lima City Tour will take place on the first day or, otherwise, the city tour will still take place on the penultimate day. 

Day 2: Transfer to Arequipa and city tour

Early in the morning, private transfer to Lima airport for the flight to Arequipa. Upon arrival, transfer to the hotel. Subsequently, one of our representatives will pick you up at the hotel where you will be staying for the day’s program. Our guide will take you to visit the historic center of the city, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, as well as at the Santa Catalina Convent and to discover the Santuarios Andinos Museum, also known as the home of the famous “Mummy Juanita”. For those with energy and time it is advisable, after the guided tour, to continue a visit of the historic center, with the picturesque Mercado di San Camilo and the districts of Yanahuara, from where you can appreciate a splendid panorama of the city and the Misti volcano in the background.

Day 3: Transfer to Puno

After breakfast, travel by bus from Arequipa to the city of Puno. The arrival in Puno (3850 m) is scheduled for early afternoon. Transfer from the bus terminal to the hotel. Once again your acclimatization will be very important and it is advisable to rest or, at the most, to go out for tea at the Corregidor house, right on the Plaza de Armas. 

Day 4: Tour of Lake Titicaca

After breakfast, we will start a wonderful full day guided tour in Lake Titicaca using a boat shared with other travelers. The transfer to and from the embargadero of the port of Puno included. We will first visit the floating islands of the Uros, then the traditional and folkloristic Island of Taquile and finally we will land on the Chucuito Peninsula in the village of Luquina Chico. Once on the ground we will witness some activities and demonstrations carried out by the local community that will illustrate their uses and customs, as well as their beautiful craftsmanship. Return to Puno in the afternoon. 

Day 5: Transfer to Cusco with a stop in Pukara, Raqchi and Andahuailillas

On this day the long transfer from Puno to Cusco is expected. To make the long journey more pleasant, some stops and entrances to sites such as Pukara, Raqchi and the famous Iglesia Andahuailillas will be included. Guide services and a traditional buffet lunch will also be included. Arrival in Cusco (3,400 masl) in the late afternoon and transfer from the terminal to the hotel. 

Day 6: Cusco and surroundings

After breakfast, you will be met at the hotel by a bilingual guide to build the city tour of the historic center of Cusco – Cultural Heritage of Humanity – and a visit to the four archaeological sites that surround the city. The visit includes a stop at the Plaza Mayor and the Templo del Sol or Qoriqancha. Continue out of town to visit the Incas of Qenqo, Tambomachay, Puca Pucara and the impressive Sacsayhuamán Fortress, strategically built on a hill overlooking Cusco, famous for its huge stones. Return to the hotel around 13:30. Lunch and free afternoon, to dedicate to the personal discovery of the historic center of Cusco. We suggest a walk in the picturesque neighborhood of San Blas and take advantage of one of the many visits included in the BTC, Cusco Tourist Ticket,

Day 7: The Sacred Valley

After breakfast you will be joined at the hotel by our local contact person and will head off with a group tour to the Sacred Valley of the Incas, for a long day dedicated to his knowledge. You will first visit the marvelous archaeological site of Pisaq and its famous artisan market, where it is possible to get lost in a maze of small streets created in the town square by hundreds of colorful stalls; then you will continue towards Ollantaytambo to discover its majestic archaeological site with the Temple of the Sun. We will then proceed independently on foot to the train station to take the train to Aguas Calientes, which will lead you to the gates of the Machu Picchu archaeological sanctuary. Short transfer on foot and hotel accommodation. 

Day 8: The wonderful citadel of Machu Picchu

Early in the morning, transfer by foot (no more than a few minutes) to the Aguas Calientes bus station to immediately take the shuttle that will take you, along a zigzag path, to the marvelous citadel of Machu Picchu in just 30 minutes. Once there, you will make a group visit to the famous Inca citadel, visiting the “Plaza Principal”, the Circular Tower, the sacred Solar Clock, the royal houses, the Temple of the Three Windows and cemeteries. At the end of the guided tour, travelers will be given the opportunity to remain within the archaeological site; in any case, at the appropriate time and depending on the time of the return train, it will be necessary to reach the station of Aguas Calientes to return to Ollantaytambo / Poroy.

Day 9: Free day in Cusco

Day off in Cusco. On this day we recommend visiting other sites of interest included in the Cusco Tourist Ticket, visiting the San Blas district, the Museum of Anthropology and Archeology, the Museum of Pre-Columbian Art. 

Day 10: Return to Lima

Transfer to Cusco airport for the flight to Lima (NOT INCLUDED). Immediately after arrival, transfer to Miraflores where you will have free time at your disposal or you can deepen your knowledge of the city of Lima by visiting some museums, exhibitions or galleries in the cultural district of Barranco and Miraflores. Very interesting is the LUM (Lugar de la Memoria, the Tolerancia y la Inclusión Social), a pedagogical and cultural commemoration space inaugurated in December 2015 that hosts the history of violence experienced in Peru between 1980 and 2000 due to clashes between the State and terrorist groups Sendero Luminoso and Movimiento Revolucionario Tupac Amaru. On request, with a small upgrade it will also be possible to try the famous lime cuisine in one of the best restaurants in the whole city.

Day 11: End of services

Transfer to the airport by private vehicle. In the case of an intercontinental flight it will be necessary to present yourself at check-in at least 3 hours before the flight departure time for the next destination. In case your journey continues to other national destinations, they will be necessary at least 2 hours in advance. End of services.
