Conquering Cusco and the floating islands of Titicaca

During your visit, you will discover the main streets and archaeological sites of the ancient capital of the Inca Empire of Cusco. Then you will visit the Sacred Valley of the Incas and be amazed by the lost city, the citadel of Machu Picchu: this place is unique for the majesty of its buildings and its location, surrounded by exuberant tropical vegetation. You will end on  Lake Titicaca, the highest in the world with its characteristic islands.

Day 1: Transfer to Cusco and visit of the capital of the Incas

Arriving in Lima you will be slung on a domestic flight to Cusco. Upon your arrival, you will be welcomed and transferred to the hotel. In the afternoon, accompanied by a shared bilingual guide, you will visit the Inca capital in the city of Cusco to admire the Cathedral, the Temple of Santo Domingo and the ancient Temple of the Sun. Lunch will be free. Later you can visit the four archaeological sites of the Incas: Tambomachay, Q’enqo, Puca Pucara and the impressive Sacsayhuaman, strategically built on a hill overlooking the city of Cusco. To finish the day you can stroll freely through the streets of the city. 

Day 2: Visit of the Sacred Valley

After breakfast, accompanied by your bilingual guide, you will set off to discover the Sacred Valley by bus. Start the day with a hike along the Vilcanota River. You will visit the Inca citadel of Pisac and its traditional market, discovering local crafts and customs. Lunch will be free. 

We will then proceed to the fortress of Ollantaytambo, a structure that was built to guard the entrance to the sacred valley and protect it. You will walk through the streets of the city that have preserved the traces of the ancient Inca Empire. 

You will then take the local train (included) to Aguas Calientes, where you will spend the night, and dinner will be free. 

Day 3: Visit of the city of Machu Picchu

In the early hours of the morning, you will take the minibus in the direction of Machu Picchu, considered the jewel of Inca architecture: with its characteristic neighbourhoods, squares, houses, agricultural areas, roads and observatories. You will benefit from a visit with a private local guide in Italian. In the afternoon we will return by bus to Aguas Calientes, to return to Ollantaytambo where you will spend the night. 

Day 4: Salineras of Maras, Moray and Chinchero

During this day you will continue your journey by exploring the Sacred Valley of the Incas accompanied by a local private Italian speaking guide and travelling by private vehicle. You will visit the village of Maras with its salt mines, where you can learn about the work of extracting salt and witness an incredible play of contrasting colours between the mountains, the salt marshes and the sky. We will then head to Moray, then reach Chinchero, where we will visit the former palace of the Inca King Pachacutec, before returning to Cusco. 

Day 5: Transfer to Puno and visits along the route

Early in the morning, you will head to the city of Punto by bus accompanied by an Italian-speaking guide. During the trip you will stop in the city of Andahuaylillas, to visit the Church of San Pedro and its extraordinary artistic richness and beauty. Continuing the journey you will reach the archaeological centre of Raqchi, a sanctuary built in honour of the god Wiracocha. 

You will continue your journey to the breeding centre of American Raya camelids, with a short stop at the village of Pucara, famous for its craftsmanship and the popular “Pucara bulls”. Finally, arrived in Puno you will be transferred to the hotel. 

Day 6: Lake Titicaca and its floating islands

Accompanied by a local Italian guide, you will visit Lake Titicaca by boat starting from the floating islands currently inhabited by the Uros. The tour will continue to the island of Taquile, covered by terraced fields and where you can meet the locals who still live according to ancient traditions. From the top of this island, you will have a magnificent view of the lake, of the bay of Puno up to Bolivia (Cordillera Reale) and of the Plateau. In the afternoon you will return to Puno.
