Set off to discover the Amazon and the incredible Tambopata Reserve, in the Department of Madre de Dios, near Cusco. You will live an experience of eco-tourism in the Amazon to then discover the “jewels” of Peru: Cusco, Machu Picchu and the Sacred Valley, Lake Titicaca, Arequipa and the Canion of Colca. All accompanied by meetings with local communities to enter fully, but with respect, in the spirit of this country, like real travellers.
Day 1: Arrival in Lima
Upon arrival at the airport, you will have a transfer service to the hotel.
Day 2: Arrival in the Amazon
Transfer to the airport and flight to Lima – Puerto Maldonado. Pick up at the airport upon arrival in Puerto Maldonado and travel first by land in the jungle to the Community of Infierno, then by boat on the Tambopata river for an hour and a half to reach the Lodge. Along the way, we will have lunch and we will be able to observe various species of birds and with some luck mammals such as capybara, caimans and turtles. In the afternoon we will explore the surroundings of the Lodge, observing, in the middle of the jungle, the flora and fauna of the area with giant trees, squirrels, insects, tarantulas, frogs, etc.
Day 3: Birdwatching and visit to Lake Tre Chimbadas
We will wake up at dawn to go and admire, from a nearby observation tower, a “ccolpa” of clay where various species of birds such as parrots, macaws, sprinklers, etc. are fed early in the morning. Later we will continue by boat for half an hour and then walk until we reach Lake Tre Chimbadas, which we will be able to patrol aboard a silent catamaran. This lake is easy to spot otters, Shanshos, herons, kingfishers, reptiles, mammals, etc.
Day 4: Cococcocha lake and caimans
After breakfast you will go to Cocococha Lake, walking in the jungle for about two and a half hours. In the afternoon we will return to the Lodge for a visit to a “chakra”, agricultural land where you can observe tropical fruit plants and commonly used medicinal plants, and where you can also meet different birds. During the night there will be a suggestive boat trip on the Tambopata river, with an expert guide who will help you catch sight of caimans, capybaras and other mammals.
Day 5: Visit Puerto Maldonado and transfer to Cusco
In the morning return by boat to the port and then by land to Puerto Maldonado. Transfer to the airport and flight to Cusco. Upon arrival, meet at the airport with our correspondent and transfer to the hotel. Afternoon free to allow your body to adapt to the altitude. We advise you to rest and eat very lightly.
Day 6: Visit of the San Pedro market
After breakfast, with our guide, we will walk through the historic centre of Cusco to the San Pedro market, where we will come into contact with flavours, colours and aromas typical of the Andes. Then we will walk to the Qoricancha or Temple of the Sun, the most important temple of the Inca Empire. Later – with private transport – we will visit the Inca fortress of Sacsayhuaman and then Qenqo, dedicated to the worship of the serpent God who – in the Andean cosmovision – gave rise to life. Along the way, visit a textile centre that houses llamas, alpacas and vicunas. Later we will reach Pisac, famous for its lively and colourful handicraft market and for the archaeological complex, a high example of Inca architecture with huge walls, palaces and towers with stone blocks.
Day 7: Discovering the mythical Sacred Valley of the Incas
Today, with private transport and guide, we will travel to the mythical “Sacred Valley of the Incas” to discover one of the most beautiful and magical places in the whole of Peru. We will visit Moray, an ancient and marvellous Inca biological laboratory; Maras, impressive community-run salt works (still operating after 1000 years) with a breathtaking landscape; and Ollantaytambo, the only Inca village still inhabited today, an extraordinary example of urban planning. In the afternoon train to Aguas Calientes to start the “Machu Picchu” adventure.
Day 8: Visit of Machu Picchu
At dawn, we will realize the dream of a lifetime: bus from Aguas Calientes and entry to Machu Picchu, the “lost city”. For the more adventurous there is also the possibility of climbing to the top of Wayna Picchu or visiting the more accessible Machu Picchu Mountain. In the afternoon we will take the train and then the bus back to Cusco.
Day 9: Free day in Cusco and “Myths and legends” tour
Free day, ideal for walking and getting to know the beautiful Cusco. Not to be missed: the Cathedral in the Plaza de Armas; the beautiful MAP (Pre-Columbian Art Museum); the Qoricancha or Temple of the Sun; the charming San Blas district. In the evening we will make a cultural and alternative walk: we will take you to discover an unknown Cusco with a suggestive walk under the stars along the narrow streets of the centre. Legends, myths, stories, ghosts and saints: a unique experience to learn about the real Cusco, a symbol of Peru.
Day 10: Traveling to the highlands towards Puno
We will come to pick you up at the Hotel at 06:15 and we will begin our journey, with other tourists, to reach the city of Puno. The bus (with heating, air conditioning, chemical bath, guide in Spanish / English), will make a series of stops during the journey: the seventeenth-century Church of Andahuaylillas, the Temple of Wiracocha in Rajchi and the Museum of Pukara. Sicuani lunch buffet. Upon arrival in Puno, meet at the bus station with our correspondent and transfer to the hotel.
Day 11: Excursion to Lake Titicaca
In the morning, a member of the Community of Huayllano will meet us at the Hotel. We will go to the port and then discover Lake Titicaca, the highest navigable lake in the world, on a tourist boat, along with other travellers. First, we will visit the floating islands of Uros which are located north of the bay of Puno. Later we will head to Taquile, the largest of the islands in the lake. We will dock at the marina of Huayllano where the families of the community – one of the six on the island – will accompany us to discover the customs and ancestral traditions of Taquile, we will be their guests, we will try their typical foods and for one night we will live like real “commoners” . Dinner and night with the host family’s home.
Day 12: Taquile Island
After having breakfast, we will explore the surroundings of the bay, the beach and some archaeological ruins. Then we will walk to the village of Taquile and after lunch, we will go down to the port. Return to Puno with arrival at approximately 6.00 pm. Night at the Hotel.
Day 13: The Canca del Colca and the Chivay spa
In the morning – between 6 am and 6.30 am – transfer by bus, with other tourists, from Puno to Chivay, where we will arrive in the early afternoon. This village is located in the Cancer del Colca, the deepest in the world and that besides enjoying beautiful landscapes is the natural habitat of alpacas, llamas, vicunas, guanacos and vizcachas. In the afternoon we will take you to bathe in the renowned thermal waters of the valley, “la Calera”. Night in Hotel in Chivay.
Day 14: Discovering the Andean condor
Departure at dawn to reach the “mirador” of the Cruz del Condor, where we can closely observe the flight of this spectacular Andean animal. Afterwards, we will continue the journey and return to Arequipa, stopping in different villages of the valley. The return to Arequipa is scheduled at around 18:00. Night at the Hotel.
Day 15: Visit of Arequipa: the white city
Free day in Arequipa, the “white city”. We recommend you not to miss: the Convent of Santa Catalina, the Juanita Mummy Museum and the delicious traditional dishes of the local cuisine. Late evening flight to the airport and flight to Lima. Upon arrival in Lima, meet at the airport with our correspondent and transfer to the hotel. Night at the Hotel.
Day 16: Departure and end of the program
Transfer to the airport for intercontinental flight. If the intercontinental flight leaves in the evening, you can have a free day in Lima or add to your program our City Tour, in which we will take you to discover Lima, with its most authentic and particular aspects.
