The temples of the sun between Bolivia and Peru

The adventure begins with the arrival in Lima, also known as the “City of Kings”. Then continue to Cusco along the tracks of the ancient Incas population, the Sacred Valley, the magical citadel of Machu Picchu and Lake Titicaca (the highest in the world) with its traditionalist islands that will give you an idea of ​​the life of the Incas . The journey will then continue towards nearby Bolivia, where you can visit the city of La Paz, the colonial city of Potosí, the salt desert of Uyuni and its colorful lagoons and, finally, the famous Island of the Sun in Copacabana.

Day 1: Arrival in Lima

Upon your arrival at Lima’s international airport, our staff will take care of the reception and transfer to a private hotel. 

Day 2: At a time of Cusco

Early in the morning we will transfer you with a private vehicle from the hotel to Lima airport for a direct flight to Cusco, where you will be welcomed by our staff for transfer to the hotel. In the afternoon you can visit the Inca capital in the city of Cusco with an Italian-speaking guide to see the Temple of Santo Domingo, the Temple of the Sun and much more. Continuing the tour, you will visit the four Incas archaeological sites , located near the city. 

You will discover: Tambomachay, Q’enqo, Puca Pucara and the impressive Sacsayhuaman. If you wish, you can then walk down to the main streets and the city center of Cusco. 

Day 3: Visit of Pisaq, Ollantaytambo and Aguas Calientes

The day will begin with an excursion to the Sacred Valley of the Incas along the Vilcanota River, always accompanied by a guide and a private transfer. You will visit the Inca citadel of Pisac and its traditional market, where you will discover their craftsmanship; then you will continue towards the fortress of Ollantaytambo, a structure that was built to protect the entrance to the sacred valley. You will then take a walk through the streets of the city that have preserved the traces of the ancient military, religious and cultural center of the Inca empire. Then take a local train that will take you from Ollantaytambo to Aguas Calientes for the night. 

Day 4: Visit to Machu Picchu

In the early hours of the morning you will take the minibus from Aguas Calientes towards the city of Machu Picchu, “old mountain”, considered the jewel of Inca architecture. After the guided tour, we will return by bus to Aguas Calientes in the afternoon to catch a return train to Ollantaytambo. 

Day 5: Visit of Moray Maras Chinchero and return to Cusco

During this day you will continue your journey exploring together with the guide the Sacred Valley of the Incas. Starting from the village of Moray, you will then continue walking towards the village of Maras and its salt mines, considered World Heritage Sites. You will then continue the walk to the village of Pichincoto, where the bus will wait for you to return to Cusco. You would stop at Chinchero, known as the city of the rainbow; you will visit the archaeological remains and take a walk inside the village. Finally you will return  to Cusco. 

Day 6: Visit of Raqchi and Pucara in the direction of Puno

Early in the morning you will head to the city of Puno. During the trip you will stop in the city of Andahuaylillas to visit the Church of San Pedro. Continuing the journey you will reach the archaeological center of Raqchi, a sanctuary built in honor of the god Wiracocha. You will continue your journey to the breeding center of American Raya camelids, making a brief stop at the village of Pucara, famous for its handicrafts and for the popular “Pucara bulls”. Finally you will head to the city of Puno, where you will be privately transferred to the hotel. A shared bilingual guide is provided for the day. 

Day 7: Visit to Tiahuanaco and transfer to Uyuni

In the morning you will head to La Paz, the capital of Bolivia, passing the Desaguadero border, where our on-site staff will welcome you. Later you will go to the archaeological site of Tiwnaku, where we will explore the ruins that belonged to this pre-Inca civilization. Once you arrive in La Paz, the private vehicle together with the Italian speaking guide will accompany you to the hotel. During the night we will transfer to the bus station to take a tourist bus journey to Uyuni. 

Day 8: Visit of San Cristobal in the direction of Villamar

Upon arrival in Uyuni the Italian speaking private guide will take care of the reception and transfer to the hotel. Afterwards you will drive off 4X4 ​​towards the Uyuni salt desert. From there, going south, you will visit the “train cemetery”, an ancient railway station located on the outskirts of the city. Along the way you will discover several villages, including San Cristóbal. Continuing the path you will observe the animals in their natural habitat. Finally, you will reach the town of Villamar, for the night.

Day 9: Visit of the Green Lagoon and the Colored Lagoon

Today you will admire, in the company of your private guide and on board of a 4X4, wonderful landscapes characterized by volcanoes covered by a blanket of snow that stand out on the horizon. In the morning you will enter the Eduardo Avaroa National Reserve, where you will visit the Green Lagoon and the White Lagoon at the foot of the Juriques and Licancabur volcanoes. Later you will continue your journey through the Dalí desert (so named for its unreal landscape) and you will pass by the thermal waters of Polques, where you can bathe in the hot springs. The route will take you through the “Sol de Mañana” geysers, formed by volcanic craters, where you will witness their impressive geothermal activity. In the afternoon you will head to the incredible Laguna Colorata inhabited by thousands of flamingos: its intense color is due to the presence of millions of microscopic crustaceans known as “Artemia”. Finally, you will return to the town of Huayllajara for the night.

Day 10: From the Laguna Colorada to the Jewelery Route via Laguna Hedionda

In the morning after breakfast, in 4X4 with your private guide you will cross the beautiful landscapes in the desert of Siloli, famous for its “stone tree”. Then you will continue your journey north along the border with Chile along the “Jewels’ Road”: the Ramaditas, Honda, Charkota, Hedionda and Cañapa lagoons are the sanctuaries of three species of flamingos. Later you will pass at the foot of the Ollague volcano, still active. The trail then descends through the small salt desert of Chiguana, at the foot of the Tomasamil volcano. Finally, you will arrive at the resort of Aguaquiza for the night. 

Day 11: Visit of the Salar de Uyuni and its surroundings

During this day you will enter the “Salar de Uyuni” accompanied by a guide in Spanish and with a private transport in 4X4, the largest salt desert in the world, where you will live a unique experience. Then you will visit the island of volcanic origin Incahuasi. In the afternoon you will return to the city of Uyuni for the night. 

Day 12: In the direction of Potosi

In the morning you will head for a tursitic bus to Potosí, famous thanks to the extraction of silver from the mines of Cerro Rico. Upon your arrival, you will be transferred to the hotel. The rest of the day will be free. 

Day 13: Visit of the mines and transfer to La Paz

You will dedicate this day to visiting the mines. A first stop will be made at the miners’ market to buy something to give to miners: drinks, coca leaves, cigarettes. Then continue until you reach the famous Cerro Rico , where you will enter the heart of the still functioning mine. Accompanied by an experienced miner, you will explore some of the many underground tunnels and discover the hard work of these men. You will then return to the hotel. During the night you will take the bus that will take you to La Paz. 

Day 14: Visit of the City of La Paz

In the morning upon your arrival in La Paz, our contact person will welcome you and take you by private formula to the hotel. Today you will visit the city and the Valley of the Moon, where accompanied by your guide in Italian you will walk for 15 minutes in a lunar landscape and admire the landscapes of these natural formations. Later you will continue your visit to the “Gold Museum”. Finally, you will descend into the main square of the city to discover the local witch market. The rest of the afternoon will be free. 

Day 15: In the direction of Copacabana

In the morning we will transfer to the bus station to undertake a journey by tourist bus to  Copacabana. Once you arrive you will go to the small port of Copacabana to visit the Pilkokaina temple together with your guide, then head to Yumani, where you will take a short but suggestive walk until you reach Ismael and Maria’s house, who will welcome you and make you sit in the your rooms. 

Day 16: Visit of Yumani and return to Puno

In the morning you will visit with your Italian guide Yumani, from which you will enjoy an impressive view of the lake. Go down to the “Fuente del Inca” and then take a boat to the temple of Pilkokaina, dedicated to ceremonial rites in honor of the Sun God; in front of you you can see the island of the Moon. Once you leave the island, you will return to Copacabana. In the afternoon you will take the tourist bus back to the city of Puno. Upon arrival you will be privately transferred to the hotel. 

Day 17: Return and end of the trip

In the morning we will transfer from the hotel to the airport to take a direct flight to the city of Lima, where once you return you can take the flight back to Italy or continue on to new destinations.
